這是Bob Dylan創作美國民歌史上最重要的作品之一，而第一個把它唱紅的卻是 Peter, Paul & Mary三重唱，在 1963年奪得全美排行亞軍。

二戰後的美國新生代不願重蹈父兄的覆轍，建立起新的價值觀，對於上一代喜愛的一切，幾乎全盤予以否定，開創了全新的搖滾文化。1957年越戰爆發，美國派遣子弟兵遠渡重洋，前往越南戰場，傷亡慘重，因此美國社會掀起一股反戰熱潮。這同時，民歌開始在全美各地校園流行起來，許多青年不僅創作民歌來表達抗議之聲，更積極參與群眾示威。
1962年四月，年方二十出頭的Dylan譜出第一首「抗議歌曲」「Blowing in the Wind」，對傳統觀念中「男子漢」的定義提出質疑，希望世人能以和平理性的態度解決爭端，不要再對世間的不幸視而不見、聽而不聞，更不要繼續讓無辜的人們喪生在戰火之中。

Bob Dylan，一把民謠吉他、粗糙的口琴，加上他不出眾的聲音，唱出了這首簡單的歌曲。將深刻的一切，融在天真而千奇百怪的問題中，又同時留下了一個無奈的答案-The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind。 當Dylan以淳樸的聲音問說：「何時炮彈不在發射？何時不再有無辜的死亡？」，相信沒有人會無動於衷。戰爭永遠是人類所做過最愚蠢的事。這是1963 年一首非常重要而打動人心的反戰歌曲。
